    A Jeremiah 17 tree

“[Most] blessed is the man who believes in, trusts in, and relies on the Lord, and whose hope and confidence the Lord is. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters that spreads out its roots by the river; and it shall not see and fear when heat comes; but its leaf shall be green. It shall not be anxious and full of care in the year of drought, nor shall it cease yielding fruit.”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭17:7-8‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

The tree in Jeremiah 17 is an incredible promise of what life abundance in a spirit-filled believer looks like. Planted by the water. Roots spread out. Has no fear of heat. Remains green, full of life in every season. Is not worried or anxious in times of drought. Nor does it stop from being fruitful! Can you say, yes! This is for me! I believe that God in me, is that powerful.

Roots spread out. This is a tree that has grown. It hasn’t been stagnant, but has established itself. It’s roots reach out and are touching and impacting the world around it. It doesn’t fear the heat because it knows its root system is a steady source of life. A good foundation has been built and in times of trials this tree remains steadfast. No fear.

Be planted by the water. How does one do this? Well, where do I choose to plant my mind and heart each day? Do I start with the Word, which is the living water, do I continue my day meditating on the Word I’ve implanted? Or, do I start with the news, or scrolling through my phone, checking what my friends may or may not have posted? Or,so consumed with work there’s no room for Him? I want to suggest that being planted in the right spot is crucial in what kind of tree we’ll be and what kind of fruit we’ll carry. I want to be a Jeremiah 17 tree. Planted and standing firm in the living Water of the Word. Carrying fruit that resemble the Word. Living my life not outside the Word, but in it and out of it.

It doesn’t stop from being fruitful. Wow! All year long, never stopping from bearing fruit. It’s hard to imagine!  Yet, when we are constantly drinking from the Water of the word, we are being filled with supernatural energy. Jesus said to the woman at the well, that the one who drinks the water He gives will never thirst again and in fact the water He gives will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life. Out of your belly will flow streams of living water. You see, like this tree, when our source of life is rich, it can’t be contained. It has to burst forth. As long as the tree stays planted beside the Water, it is being fed by life and life flows through the tree making it healthy and green and then overflows into fruit. Fruit which is then given to bring life to others.

A tree that only stays green but bears no fruit is not yet a Jeremiah 17 tree. It has to reach the fruit bearing stage to make an impact. So let us not only be planted beside the water, but let us also continue on drinking from its stream. Growing steadfast, until together we bear fruit enough to feed the nations.
