    Life is in the details

Have you ever heard the saying, “Life is in the details.”? Thought about what it means? For me, it’s like this: Life is the whole picture, the puzzle after it’s finished. This puzzle is  made up of many tiny details and pieces and without these the picture would be incomplete. You need the details to create the picture of life.

I was thinking about this today and the thought popped into my mind, you know...God is in the details too. A couple years ago I had the privilege of touring a vineyard and one of the first things you realize is, behind every good wine is a story. A story of small beginnings. Of a seed planted, which grew, and with a lot of care there came the day it had clusters of grapes. These were harvested and pressed, then went through the process of fermentation before being bottled. To make a long story short, the glass of wine, is more than just a glass of wine. There’s a lot of details in the creation of the wine. It’s not just liquid in a glass, it’s a story in a glass.

God is in the details. There’s not a single moment of your life and mine where we could say, God wasn’t there. There’s never a breath we take that wasn’t a gift from Him. There’s never a day that came, where the sunlight didn’t touch your face, even when it was cloudy. Even in the moments when you thought you’re the only one, and no one cares; in those moments God says, BEFORE you call, I will answer.

God IS in the details because He’s into details. Nature proves it. Look at the flowers. Some are so incredibly detailed and clothed in splendor, exclaiming God’s creativity. I’ve often wondered why. I mean.. it’s just a flower, right? Here today, gone tomorrow. So why the details? Maybe, it’s because some of us need to have the simple things in life proclaim to us how big our God is. And if He cares about the details of a flower and the needs of a sparrow, will He not also care more, much more, for the details in our life, we who are created in His image? Will He not also meet our needs? Some of us need to just let go of trying to have everything under our control. It’s an impossible and life-draining goal anyway. God gives advice on this and says, Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness! And the result of that will be that He takes care of the details in our lives. Every single detail taken care of. Isn’t that what you wanted in the first place, hmm? Gods way is definitely less stressful than my way.

Just as the glass of wine tells a story, your life tells one too. God knows that the details, the smallest details, matter. The more sunshine in a grapes life, determines a higher level of sugar and a lower acidity in the wine. De-stemming the grapes gets rid of bitterness. Pressing the grapes extracts the juice. Fermenting the juice creates wine and adds more sweetness.

Your life isn’t much different. How much of the Son do you have in your life? I guarantee it determines the sweetness of your attitude. How many times have the cares and worries of life pressed in on you? Or how often have you felt crushed by the weight of sin, of fear, of troubles? What was it that came running out of you, was it the flow and richness of faith or a rush of bitter and contaminated waters? What you put inside your heart is what will flow out of it, and this is especially true in times of stress. Put God into your heart, and God will flow through out the details in your life.

I’ll simplify it. You really don’t have to stress and worry about every detail, every piece that creates the puzzle which is your life. Doing so will mess up the picture anyway. Instead put your focus on the God who dwells in the details and in that relationship He’ll create for you a life abundant. Full of beautiful details. And He’ll look at what He has made and say, It is good!
